Bourne Grammar School

Overview

Media Studies encourages students to study the media in an academic context and apply their knowledge and understanding to their own media productions. Critical thinking skills are developed through analysis of key texts from various media industries such as advertising, news, social media, music, video games, television, magazines and film.

Years 12 and 13

Students follow the OCR Media Studies (H409) specification, full details for which are available here. The specification allows students to critically analyse visual information and key texts through media language and explore wider media concepts such as representation, audience and ideologies as well as the application and evaluation of media theory.

Students will also undertake a practical unit as part of their non-examination assessment. Here they will respond to set briefs, and create products across different mediums such as video, online media and print.
