Applying to University
Every year many students at Bourne Grammar School apply to go to university. You don’t have to go to university and you can build a career without a degree but here are a number of reasons why you should consider doing a degree.
- It may improve your career prospects. For some professions a degree is essential. Statistics show that graduates on average earn more than those without higher education qualifications.
- Pursuing a vocation - you may want to further an interest in a particular subject or in a particular vocation.
- Developing employable skills – a degree not only gives you the opportunity to gain an in-depth knowledge of your chosen subject but also to develop transferable skills such as communication, presentation and problem-solving skills whilst improving your ability to work as part of a team.
- Building self-confidence, independence and responsibility - university is likely to be the first time you have lived away from home and you will have the opportunity to make new friends from different countries and backgrounds.
- Gaining experience with extra-curricular activities- there are usually dozens of extracurricular opportunities to get involved with at university which will boost both enjoyment and employability throughout the higher education experience.
