Nine Year 13 students have been successful in securing conditional offers to study for their degrees at either Oxford or Cambridge
13 January 2015
I am thrilled to report that a stunning total of nine Year 13 students have been successful in securing conditional offers to study for their degrees at either Oxford or Cambridge. This wonderful news follows the flood of offers that our Year 13 students who have made university applications have been receiving over the last few months. There have been some notable successes from students who have applied to study on very highly-selective courses at other universities, including offers to read Medicine and Veterinary Science; to receive an offer in these subjects in particular is a considerable achievement.
The students are not home and dry as yet; all have been made offers, as is the usual way, which require them to achieve very high grades in their A-Level examinations and, in some cases, in supplementary papers too. There is a great deal of hard work ahead for the nine Oxbridge students just as there is for everyone else.
Certainly in my time at Bourne Grammar this is the most successful our Oxbridge applicants have been in terms of securing conditional offers. All deserve our most hearty congratulations. Those who applied but were unsuccessful - inevitably an outcome that all applicants have to factor in when they apply - will have benefitted from the experience and can now work towards the offers they have at other highly-prestigious and selective universities.
The students have worked exceptionally hard to get this far. They have also been very well supported by their teachers; I am particularly grateful to the colleagues who form our Academic Aspiration Coordinators (Mr Bainton, Mr Kelly and Mrs Paul) who support students who apply to Oxford or Cambridge and to all highly-selective courses at other universities. In addition to the specialist academic support provided by the Academic Aspiration Team, all our Oxbridge applicants benefited enormously from the expert support provided by Mrs Hawkins (Careers & UCAS Manager), who provides guidance to all students who make UCAS applications
This year’s students holding Oxbridge offers are:
Laura Baker - French & Italian Cambridge
Meghan Bird - Maths Cambridge
Alice Eva - French & Linguistics Oxford
Hannah Fytche - Theology Cambridge
Josh Garnham - Computer Science Cambridge
Matthew Gutteridge - History Cambridge
Chiara Leadbeater - Natural Sciences Cambridge
Henry Morley - Engineering Cambridge
Alexandra Wilshaw - Maths Cambridge
