U15 Hockey: Lincoln Minster
On 24 of September, our U15 team took on Lincoln Minster.
The game started at a slow pace as we were unaware of how Lincoln were going to come out.
Sharp and accurate passing gave us majority possession in the first quarter and a few missed shots left it 0-0. Going into the second quarter, BGS were desperate to get a goal and a strong attack and passing sequence between Nicole Mancheva and Honor Moore lead Nicole to get the first goal by placing it carefully past the keeper. Another great attack led to BGS winning a short corner with an accurate push out from Eloise Hull to Honor, who took a straight strike to place it in the bottom corner. As the third quarter began, Lincoln came out stronger and were determined to get back into the game, a few attacks worried BGS, however goalkeeper Hannah Burke was able to clear a goal off the line and keep calm under pressure. Shortly after, a strong slap from Kiki Timmins across the defence allowed us to build up from the back and a deflection off the Lincoln keeper allowed Eloise to perform a breathtaking volley into the top corner making it 3-0.
Going into the final quarter we were determined to keep our lead and Hannah to keep a clean sheet. We decided to keep possession and keep the ball in our half, however a long ball from Honor allowed Josie Thurston to get into the D and push the ball past the keeper to make it 4-0. We kept attacking and hassling Lincoln’s defence but the game came to an end at 4-0. A brilliant win for our first game and hopefully more to come.
Superb play by both the Year 9 and 10 players.
