DofE Gold Expedition – Lake District, Keswick
Immediately after schools closed for the summer break, 20 Year 12 students made the journey to Keswick to embark upon their Gold DofE expedition.
With the weather looking fabulous (much cooler in the Lakes!) and no rain in the forecast, it certainly promised to be a successful expedition.
We were not disappointed. The students made the most of the wonderful walking conditions, taking in the sights around Ullswater, Thirlmere, Derwent Water, Buttermere and Crummock Water. All their planning and training came together to make for a thoroughly enjoyable experience for everyone involved and though tough, all students reported they had an amazing time and would like to do more walking with wild camping in the future.
After following many of these students through their Bronze and Silver Awards, it was a pleasure to support them through the ultimate DofE challenge, watching them successfully employ their new skills to navigate, make camp, cater for and support each other successfully over 4 days and 3 nights.
Congratulations teams; Mud, Sweat & Tears, Blister Sisters and The Hamiltons, you should be very proud of yourselves and thank you for being superb ambassadors for your school and the DofE scheme.
