U13 Girls are Superzone Champions!

On Wednesday, our teams headed to a sun-soaked Boston for the U13 Girls Superzone Futsal Tournament - joining ten other schools in what proved to be a thrilling day of fast-paced action and standout performances. We were the only school bold enough to enter two teams… and wow, did they deliver!
The group stages flew by in a rapid-fire ‘Round Robin’ battle, with both BGS teams showing real determination. Team 1 were desperately unlucky - missing out on progression by the narrowest of margins: goal difference. That meant a play-off clash against Thomas Middlecott Academy to decide placings.
But the girls saved their best until last.
With grit, teamwork (and no recognised goalkeeper), they stormed to a dominant 4–0 victory, securing 7th place in style. A brilliant finale and a performance they should be hugely proud of!
Team 2 were on fire from the first whistle. They swept through their group with every win to nil, displaying slick team plays and even a jaw-dropping solo stunner from Matilda Walker that left Mr Graves speechless (for the first time ever!). Topping the group? Never in doubt.
A commanding 3–0 win in the quarter-final kept the momentum rolling.
The semi-final, however, brought serious drama. For the first - and only - time all day, they conceded. With the game drifting into the lottery of penalties, it needed something special… and up stepped Imogen Nightingale, sliding in at the far post to score a dramatic last-second extra time winner. Heart-stopping stuff!
The showdown with unbeaten Spalding High School promised fireworks - and BGS delivered. Captain Fantastic, Mabel Swift, lit up the final early with a long-range strike that rifled into the bottom corner. In goal, Annie Hampton, playing a year up, showed incredible composure with a couple of crucial stops, looking assured throughout.
From there, it was a masterclass in possession and professionalism. The girls controlled the tempo, slowed the game when it mattered, and saw out a brilliant victory against a very strong team.
Well played, girls - what a day! Drama, goals, and a nice trophy! But the most pleasing thing was the way the girls conducted themselves throughout the day and the support each team showed each other.
