U14 Badminton Tournament
The annual junior Badminton Doubles tournament was held on Monday 13 October with our biggest ever entry of students. We had 26 boys and 14 girls all extremely excited to compete and of varying levels of experience.
We only had 3 courts and so the students demonstrated great patience in waiting between games and reining in their extreme excitement to compete. I must express a huge thankyou to Honor Moore and Eloise Hull from Year 11 who supervised and ran the girls’ event whilst I was busy organising four separate boys league all at once.
In the girls league every pair played each other for a period of 5 minutes and then the winner was the pair with the most points at that moment. The stars of the event were Aarikha Arunkumar and Proud Vichathum who put on an outstanding display, retaining their title from last year. However, I was also impressed by Fatimah Walji and Amara Densham who turned up and put on an excellent performance.
In the boys’ section, all boys played against everyone in their league and then the winners of all four leagues played off in a semi-final event. These were:
• Krithik Mohan and Harshil Kadir vs Anish Katha and Samarth Aladakatti
• Srikar Puppala and Advith Kallepally vs Umar Thalangara and Mahdi Abdallah
The final was Krithik and Harshil vs Srikar and Advith, all four very experienced players. The winners were Krithik and Harshil who powered and smashed their way to victory over the deft and guile of Srikar and Advith.
