ESAA Cross Country Cup

Following on from strong performances at the first round of the Fenland Cross Country League, four teams from the school again visited Crowland, but this time for the first round of the English Schools Cross Country Cup.

The 24 students, 6 in each team, proved to be strong in all age groups. In the Junior Girls race, Isla Tate finished in an impressive 6th position, closely followed in 8th by Mable Swift. Avocet Williams in 12th and Liliana Winn in 15th completed the team scoring with Imogen Nightingale and Martha Shackel completing the team performance. This would see the team finish in 2nd place overall and qualify for the Regional Finals on the 8th of November in Leeds.

The second race, the Junior Boys had a team consisting of two Year 8 and four Year 7 boys all, of which all performed very well. Sam Griffin was first home in 2nd place with Ciaran McKay close behind in 5th. Impressive performances from Emmett Saker, Lennon Teague and Rowan Sekhar in 9th, 10th and 11th respectively, completed the team scoring with George Calvert in 16th place. Another impressive team performance seeing the boys qualify in first position overall. ESAA Cross Country Cup – Mr C Ray Crowland - Tuesday, 7th October.

In the intermediate Girls competition, one of our stronger teams, further exceptional performances were evident. Sophie Alliston finished in 2nd, Amberly Keith 8th and Sophia Christoudias and Madeleine Hobson in 10th and 11th respectively. Samaira Bajaj finished in 13th and Martha Shackle 15th, completing another impressive team performance and finishing strongly in second place as a team.

The final race to end the day was the Intermediate Boys. This would see a very close competition with Bourne Grammar qualifying in 2nd place just in front of Stamford School and behind William Farr from Lincoln. As individuals Cayden MacKay in 6th position was first home for the school, Freddie Neil an impressive 8th, Eli Saralis 9th and Zack Browne 12th with Harry Armstrong in 15th position. Despite illness, Noah Skinner worked hard to finish in 29th position but remained determined to finish the race.

It was a delight to see four strong team performances and to be the only school that would have four teams qualify for the Regional Finals. Well done to all. A reminder that the running club continues ever Monday and Wednesday after school and is open to any student who wishes to improve their general fitness through running. The next Cross Country event is the second round of the Fenland League at Hampton College on Monday 13 October, with the races starting at 4.15pm.
